The United States government is bankrupt many time over. It has no money and it owes more than 15,000,000,000,000 dollars. WE THE PEOPLE ARE ON THE HOOK FOR THAT MONEY!

Don’t look for help from Obama or the government because they have nothing. All they have the ability to do is to steal from future generations. YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DEBT.

Start letting your representatives in Washington on both sides know that this has to stop. Get angry because the only way things are going to change is if the American people let their leaders know that enough is enough!

We are all in debt. Individuals, companies, towns, cities, states, and the whole country. Debt is an epidemic right now with no signs that it will ever get better.

Perhaps one of the ways to slowly get ourselves out of debt is for our government to adopt the same policy of only allowing one child per couple like China does. Sound crazy? Well it might be but Vice President Biden understands that policy and that in itself is scary. He apparently then went on (during his China trip) to say that the United States could improve it’s debt situation with such a “one child” policy.

It will never matter how many children we have as long as our country is filled with people who are uneducated about finances and feel they have a “right” to things regardless of whether they can afford them. When did parents stop teaching their children to save for the things they want? Those are the lessens that are lacking and have led to a generation of people who think being in debt is totally normal.

Lets look at the housing crisis that was reported to have been brought on by bankers and other financial institutions that lent money to people who couldn’t afford it. No money down and all sorts of other irresistible gimmicks were too enticing for people to turn down. While that may be true, part of the blame has to go to every homeowner that signed up for those deals. Didn’t they know or care that they were a paycheck away from defaulting on those mortgage loans? Didn’t they realize that the loans they were taking out were way bigger than they should have been? With proper finance knowledge and training, people SHOULD have turned those loans down. But they didn’t because they were greedy and financially naive.

During the last 20 to 30 years we have become a society that has become obsessed with having things right now regardless of whether we can afford it. People feel they have a “right” to material things and too many of us are willing to go into debt to satisfy our lust for that wealth.

Our government is just a reflection of us. We elect politicians that have the same contempt for prudent spending as we do and because we let them get away with it, we find ourselves at the edge of the cliff. Biden and Obama can blame the number of children we have or any number of other stupid reasons but it won’t change a thing. The reason we are in debt is because we have been unwilling to spend only the money that we have or are going to get. We have a spending problem not a baby problem!

It’s amusing but really rather sad that people think they can get debt relief from the United States government. After all, our government is in more debt than ever before and I think it is clear that most people have no clue just how serious the problem really is.

To demonstrate the massive extent of our nation’s debt, I found this Reuters article that puts everything in plain English that we can understand:

Our debt right now is over 14 trillion dollars. How much is that really? Well you could put stacks of $1,000 bills together and it would reach 900 miles according to that article.

A stack of $1.00 bills in that amount would stretch all the way to the moon and back!

The real problem is that our government continues to borrow at a rate of 4 billion dollars every day. That equals about 167 million dollars every hour. How can we ever pay all that back?

Yet every day, hundreds if not thousands of people go online looking for government debt relief grants that they hope will help get them out of debt. The have no idea that they are looking for help from the biggest culprit of them all regarding irresponsible financial behavior: our U.S. government.

Whether you agree or disagree with what the politicians are doing in Washington, you should be aware and start to understand just how mammoth our countries debt problem is. No matter how bad you have been with debt and how irresponsible you have been, our elected government officials over the last 20 years have been worse.

People need debt relief and the economy just doesn’t seem to be turning around. While the stock market is up, real people are in real trouble with their finances as jobs are still hard to find and don’t pay as much as they once did.

This means that people continue to go online searching for government grants for debt relief and what they find is very confusing. Most of the websites you find are ones that are full of advertisements and seem to have no real information. They might also lead you to debt relief sites that make spectacular promises such as if you use them you will be able to get rid of all your debt.

So how do you find a legitimate website about debt relief grants or other government programs that might help you out?

Never Pay for Information!

First of all, you should never have to pay for the information. Some websites will ask a fee and in return promise to get you a grant. The FTC had to actually come in and shut some of these websites down and they made new rules. No company is allowed to charge for debt relief assistance up front and they can’t make promises that they can’t guarantee. In the world of grants, no one can make such a guarantee because there is no government grant that anyone can be assured of getting.

If you are looking for debt relief grants or anything else you hope to get, always make sure you go to an official government website. Those would be the ones that end in “.gov”. For instance, if you are trying to find grants you should go to http://www.grants.gov/. Please notice that it has the “.gov” at the end or the URL and that is how you will know that it is an official website of the government.

But There Is Bad News

Even if you go to a legitimate website like the one I just referenced, it is unlikely that you will be able to find any government grants for debt relief like you hope to find. The truth is that our United States government is not in the business of giving out grants just because people are in debt. There are a variety of grants available but there are none for people that are just in debt and want to get out.

Maybe you have heard about debt relief grants from rumors or advertisements online. If you see ads for things like that it is easy to believe that they are real and really do exist. But misleading advertisements can be a ploy companies use just to try to get your business. Once they have your interest, they will try to charge you for other services or for things that you really could get for free with some work on your own.

The bottom line is that you should always be going to official (.gov) websites to find out information about any government program you want to know more about. It will be free to get the information and you should never pay for it. If someone does want to charge you for their help, you may choose to pay but you should know that they are not a government agency.

There are many people in debt right now and the economy is very bad. Jobs are hard to find and many people have had to go into debt just to stay in their homes and put food on the table. That may be why you and so many others are hoping to find help from the government in the form of debt relief grants or some other kind of monetary aid.

The answer is because the 2009 stimulus bill was a political maneuver that was designed to get the economy going and to save some of the companies that were believed to be too big and important to fail. With unemployment still at 10% and things as bad as ever though, the evidence is showing that all that stimulus money did little to nothing to help things.

Nevertheless, people are still desperate for money and debt is piling up in many households. When jobs can’t be found, people have little choice other than to go in debt. Credit card debt is the worst because of the high interest most credit card companies charge. Right now, more families are in debt than probably ever before.

Debt counseling and settlement companies know this and that is why some of them might be using misleading advertisements to get your business. If you ever hear or see an advertisement touting the obama credit card debt relief act or The Obama debt relief plan, you need to know that there are no such things. They don’t exist and you can’t get help with your credit card debt from them.

So, even if you have heard somewhere that Obama has a debt relief program just for your situation, don’t believe it. And before you pay money to a debt relief consolidation company, know that the promises they are making might be exaggerated.

Knowing this, many online grant companies sprung up with offers to help you get a grant. Because government grants are so complicated and confusing for the average person, they could get away with charging money for something that you could find for free on the Internet. Now, some of these online grant companies were outright frauds and provided nothing while others were a little more legitimate and did give you some information and help.

The fact is that there is no government grant you can get just because you are in debt and need money. That’s not what grants are for even though some people may have been led to believe that. Grants are there to get money to institutions, businesses, colleges, and charities that need money for a specific prupose that will supposedly help society. That’s what the original goal was anyway.

If you want to find all the information you need about grants and find it for free you can go to the government’s website Grants.gov. There is no need to pay someone for this information as it is there for everyone and anyone who wants it. Now, you might be confused by all the choices, application processes, and all the other hoops that you need to jump through to apply for a grant. If you feel you need someone to help you out in that area, to guide you so to speak, then you might consider finding one of the legitimate grant companies that can walk you through.

If you want government debt relief, you might look into finding some of the government programs that are designed to help you understand debt, learn how to manage it, and point you to some debt counseling services. Debt relief grants from the government (and from Obama) that will magically eliminate your debt you won’t find. But you can find some programs that will educate you and start you on the road to better credit and less debt.

Unfortunately, reality is much different from that hope. While people continue to look for magical free money and free debt relief grants to get their lives turned around, they are finding that not much has changed at all. Well, the government has gotten bigger but it hasn’t gotten better.

The stimulus money was and is a mammoth outlay of cash but it didn’t go to people like you and me. It went to businesses, organizations, state and local governments, and other groups who knew how to apply for it. None of it went to ordinary folks as a hand out like some people hoped. Obama debt relief is there for some who know how to play the system but not for regular people.

There was some mortgage assistance for some families but not for others and again, you had to qualify for it and know how to get it. Many families found out they didn’t qualify for the mortgage help and where quite upset.

The moral of all this is that if you think you are going to be getting debt relief help from the government you might be waiting a very long time. The government is not going to help you in most cases, it is just going to feed off you to become bigger and more controlling. Government debt relief is a myth, plain and simple. There is only one way to become debt free and that is to spend less than you bring in. You have to learn to save and start paying down your debt one dollar at a time. The sooner you stop hoping to win the lottery or get help from the government, the sooner you will be on your way to financial freedom.

President Obama was thought by many to have put forward some new programs that would help the poor and give financial aid to those that needed it. Although there was never any concrete evidence of this, many people voted for him in hopes this was true.

2010 brings a new year and new hope for many that are in debt and looking for relief. It is unfortunate though, that there are no new debt relief grants that have been been initiated this year. If you are in debt right now, there is nothing new for you in 2010 that wasn’t already there in 2009.

While people search for debt relief grants and information online, it is unknown to them that there is really no grant available from the government that is specifically given for the purpose of getting you out of debt. The government is not in the business of giving charity to people who have credit problems, at least it shouldn’t be.

Many people do, however, get grants for other purposes and then use them to pay off debt. Governement grants can be obtained for many different purposes and some people are able to qualify for a grant and then decide to use it to pay off their debt.

If you haven’t started already, there is no better time than now to start saving money and working towards being debt free. Just don’t count on the government to help you do it though.

The best place to start your search for government grants, whether they are school grants, medical grants, house grants, home improvement grants, back to school grants or any other type of grant, is at http://www.grants.gov/. You will see that your credit card is never asked for anywhere on that site.

The grant process is a complicated one and that is why there is so many companies advertising online. Some of the advertisers are legitimate and will charge you a fee for helping you apply for the grants you are interested in. Other advertisers are not legitimate and some are outright scams that will take your credit card information to send you a cheap $1.97 kit and then bill you $129.95, $79.95, $49.95 per month after that. Those big charges are in the fine print and most people don’t know about them when they order their “free” kit. Ever since we have had a new president it seems these “Obama grants” ads have come out everywhere.

Anything that has to do with the government seems to be extremely complicated and confusing to an average person. Applying for debt relief grants is a great example of how much paperwork and knowledge is required for something that should be much easier. It is safe to say that many of the people who really need grants are not equiped to understand how to apply for them. This is not saying that they are not smart people: it is just saying that government grants are involved and you need to do a lot of legwork to apply.

You can hire an outside company to help you with the grants applications and that is your choice. Once you get the grant though, it should be free and all you will have to do from that point is make sure you fulfill all the requirements of the grants. This may mean submitting futher paperwork to show that you are abiding by the grant rules and using the money in the way it was meant to be used.
